Overview

The Abdul Ageed Mohamed Marleen Foundation was established by the family, friends and associates of Abdul Ageed Mohamed Marleen (1938–2009) to carry forward his vision of service to the community of Athulugama, Sri Lanka.

Born one of twelve children into a family of modest means, he became a lawyer, was appointed President's Counsel in 2001 and served as Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. He passed away suddenly on 23 June 2009 in Sanaa, Yemen, while representing Sri Lanka at an international conference.

Today the foundation runs the Give Light Home orphanage, opened in March 2013 with capacity for up to 80 children, alongside the free IMANA Medical & Dental Clinic and a vocational training center teaching skills such as sewing, plumbing and computing. It also opened the Bayt Ur-Rahman Mosque in 2015 and is planning a 1,200-person community services center that can double as a disaster shelter.

United World Charity Foundation, a US 501(c)(3), serves as the foundation's international affiliate for donations.
